Meet Ben Lloyd, your dry stone wall specialist rooted in the landscape.

“I grew up on a farm on Hadrian's Wall with my two brothers, where the Roman stonework around us sparked a lifelong interest in the craft. I helped my brother repair field walls in the area as a teenager, and became a professional waller full-time in 2008. My work today spans Northumberland, Cumbria and the North East, including projects for Northumberland National Park and the National Trust.”

Built to last

Project Types

Field Walling

Rebuilding agricultural boundaries across Northumberland and Cumbria's upland farms, providing shelter, dividing fields, and managing livestock grazing through the seasons. Work ranges from small repairs to full rebuilds, using traditional techniques supplemented where needed with quarried stone to match the original wall.

Ornamental Garden Walling

New dry stone garden walls for residential and private clients, built using Alston Natural Stone to bring both aesthetic character and boundary structure to a garden. Every wall is designed around the space it sits in, with features such as curved walls, retaining walls, steps, stiles and berms tailored to suit the setting.

Estate Walling

Repairing and rebuilding boundaries for the National Trust and large country estates. These walls often serve a dual purpose, dividing working agricultural land while also enclosing grounds open to the public, and the work is carried out with care for the historic parkland and woodland settings they sit within.
